The project UVGN (Uni-voweled geographical names) consists of collecting names of geographical entities (such as cities, islands, rivers,...) that have identical vowels. Such names are evaluated according to the key below and ordered. If you have any suggestions for the list, contact the coordinator .
Al the names are divided into two categories.
HOMOGENOUS NAMES (Main category)
vowels are identical and at least three of them
INHOMOGENOUS NAMES (Near Hits)
there must be at least four identical vowels plus one which is different
The name of the entity must be either in the standard English spelling or in the
spelling of the country in which that entity lies. Such name is then assigned a UV score
according to the following table:
-1 - for a composite name (Santa Ana, Los Ojos,...)
1 - for any consonant
2 - for any "A" or "O"
3 - for any "E", "I" or "U"
4 - for any "Y"
The weights are chosen so they reflect higher frequency of As and Os and relatively
rare occurences of Ys.
